In drafting the new Constitution in 1787, the Framers stated their goals in the Preamble: “to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity”. They even have the foresight to understand the document might require revision in the future and so included a process for amendment (Article V).
If you are keeping score at home, how do you think we, the United States of America, land of the free, home of the brave, are doing? Are we moving closer to those goals or slipping further away?
Hi Nic, Hope all is well. Again..great commentary during these times. The issue you currently present can be perceived in some ways as moving closer to certain aspects of the goals stated in the Preamble and slipping away on other issues simultaneously.
There’s a tension for sure. I am hopeful the fabric doesn’t tear and we can right the ship, but honestly I’m concerned. Time will tell

We are slipping away from our ideals and it is very sad
