For those of you who read this newsletter, I am making a few changes. I am retiring the 1hundredsixty8 title that I have used for 15 years on various platforms. This newsletter will now be known as ThoughtsFromTheCheapSeats. Existing content will remain available, and there may be minor changes in my approach.
Let me explain.
This newsletter is a personal project. I write as a way of organizing my thoughts and, as I get older, to maintain an active mind. For any of you who write anything- a business email, a chat with a customer service AI, or a Facebook post- you know that expressing yourself in writing is not always simple and can be daunting at times. For me, the challenge is the point. I do not do it for money or to get attention: after over 6 years on Substack, I have 98 subscribers, only three of whom have ever paid for the newsletter. I do not regard myself as an “influencer”.
This is not a solicitation for paid subscriptions. There are, however, two things I would like to see from you, the readers. The first is your help in increasing readership by pointing people to 1hundredsixty8.substack.com. All subscriptions are free; payment is optional, and nothing is behind a paywall.
The second objective is to increase reader engagement, meaning more comments from you. I am expressing my ideas and my opinions, but I am also curious to discover what you guys think. That means an exchange of ideas. To learn and grow, we need to have our beliefs challenged, and there is no better way than open exchange and debate.
So, please share the link with others. Also, aside from your comments, I do publish other people’s essays on this site. In over 6 years on Substack, I’ve published 190 articles on the newsletter; I authored 188, and two of you submitted pieces. I'm sure more of you have something you want to say, but can’t see yourself writing on a regular basis. I’m guessing some of you post on platforms such as Facebook or Reddit. As has been said, “If you have an idea, write. If you don’t, read.”

to produce more and better content going forward.
