If you are eligible, have you gotten one or both of the Covid vaccine injections or do you intend to get them at all? Do you feel the vaccines are safe? Do you understand that science doesn’t always get things right but scientific methodology allows scientists to learn from their errors and improve?
Finally, do you understand the difference between science and politics?
My whole family has been vaccinated. Unfortunately anything further becomes political. So rather than respond to the health crisis of most of our lives, as a united nation, we have become divided. The consequences show up in every data point released about the health and welfare of this country. For example yesterday's release of jobs data. While the number increased, it was a slower increase than past months or what was expected. Each side is digging in without adequate support and making dialogue that much harder. Politics is now a part of every field and every vocal citizen and almost without accountability.
I guess I could but I haven't. Fortunately, I have many friends in the medical field here and abroad that I can call upon for advice. Furthermore, I do not subscribe to any of the current media or political hype to make relevant life decisions. I majored in science while studying in Germany and the US, which hopefully explains my conviction to science. Having politicians and bureaucrats trying to tell me what's best for me just does not do it.
Great point. The issue is that public health in the US is more or less mandated in the preamble of the Constitution where it states that it is a purpose of government to "promote the general welfare". That puts public health in the reach of politicians and that is problematic. Both this President and the previous one have pushed the idea of vaccinations. I'm not a scientist of a medical practitioner but it is my free choice to go with the science guys' advice.
I’ve gotten my first dose. I’ll get the second midMay. I trust that these vaccines are safe, and that the ones released with FDA approval are. I understand the way science is able to improve and build on itself, yes. And finally, yes, there’s a significant difference between politics and science. But the bigger concern right now is that scientific bodies have been manipulated by political agendas (eg Trump’s CDC guidelines and WHO’s guidelines not matching up + WHO potentially being manipulated by China).
A reminder that you should make comments directly on this page rather than email them to me.
